Lenny Rodriguez

Lenny Rodriguez is in his 27th season with the Mt. SAC Football Team, as a distinguished defensive strategist. Rodriguez played a key role in leading the Mounties to National Championships in 1997, 2009 and 2010. During the 1997 season, he guided the team to an undefeated record, capturing both State and Conference Championships, and finishing the season with the fifth-best defense in the nation.  

Before his current role, Rodriguez spent nine seasons as the defensive line and linebackers coach at the University of New Mexico from 1998 to 2006. His previous decade at Mt. SAC included roles such as outside linebackers coach, safeties and inside linebackers coach and defensive coordinator.

Throughout his illustrious career, Rodriguez has been instrumental in developing the talent of numerous future NFL stars including, Quincy Black (New Mexico, Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Antonio Pierce (Mt. SAC, Arizona, NY Giants, Raiders Head Coach), Chris McAlister (Mt. SAC, Arizona, Baltimore Ravens), and NFL Hall of Famer Brian Urlacher (New Mexico, Chicago Bears).

Rodriguez played two seasons for the Mounties (1974-1975) before finishing his collegiate career as a two-year starter for the University of San Diego (1976-1977). He earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Ashford University in Iowa.
