Leroy Johnson oversees the Mountie secondary defensive backs and serves as Co-Defensive Coordinator. Johnson began his coaching career at the high school level, with roles at Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga and Bonita High School. At Bonita, he played a key role in leading the Bearcats to the 1999 CIF Championship. He joined the Mountie Football Staff from 2000 to 2002 and returned in 2006, becoming a significant contributor to the program’s success.
A graduate of Pomona High School, Johnson attended Mt. SAC, where he played defensive back for two seasons (1988-1989) and earned First-Team All-Conference honors both years. He received his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a minor in biology from the University of La Verne.
Johnson was the president of Against All Odds, a scholastic tutoring company based in Long Beach, and is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., where the motto is “culture for service and service for humanity.” He resides in Long Beach with his wife Lavette and their two daughters, Shavonn and Brandee Able.
