Johnny Salcido returned to his alma mater in 2019 to coach the Mountie running backs. After attending Mt. SAC in 2008, Salcido joined the U.S. Army, where he served as a decorated Airborne Infantryman and was deployed to Afghanistan from December 2009 to September 2010. He was honorably discharged in 2011 and returned to Mt. SAC and the football program in 2015.
Salcido attended South Hills High School in West Covina before attending Mt. SAC. During his first stint at Mt. SAC, he played defensive back for the 2008 SoCal Championship Football Team. Following his military service, he rejoined Mt. SAC and contributed as a fullback on the 2015 conference and Patriot Bowl Championship team.
As a union carpenter, Salcido takes pride in having worked on the foundation forms of the new Hilmer Lodge Stadium, including the parking lot and tennis courts structure.
He earned his associate's degree in Kinesiology from Mt. SAC and lives with his wife Veronica and children Liliana, Johnny, Josiyah and Ariyah in Rowland Heights. In his spare time, he enjoys mixed martial arts training.
