Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Baseball Team continues to bulldoze their way through the season, overwhelming Compton College with a 21-0 shutout at home on Thursday, April 10. With the win, the Mounties move to an impressive 28-5 overall and 15-2 in South Coast Conference play, inching closer to the 30-win milestone. Compton, meanwhile, falls to 7-25 overall and 5-12 in conference action.
Mt. SAC remains firmly atop the South Coast Conference standings. Cerritos College (25-8) trails slightly after a 10-6 loss to East Los Angeles College on Thursday, widening the gap between them.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Mounties wasted no time getting on the board. Miguel Perez's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first brought in Landon White for a 1-0 lead. In the third, Jackson Giacone's fielder's choice scored Ty Thomas, and Perez came home on a passed ball, making it 3-0.
The game broke wide open in the sixth inning when Mt. SAC exploded for 12 runs. A barrage of singles from Thomas (who had two hits in the inning), Tyler Stull, Diego Ortiz, Giacone, and Bryan Bradshaw, along with doubles from Perez and White, fueled the offensive outburst to stretch the lead to 15-0.
Mt. SAC tacked on six more runs in the eighth. Hits from Perez, Sam Silversmith, and Diego Villa pushed the score to 18-0. The Tartars unraveled further with a series of walks and a hit-by-pitch that brought in three additional runs, capping the scoring at 21-0.
Hudson Castillo and Joey Peralta tag-teamed the mound, silencing Compton's offense and combining for a six-hit shutout.
