Mt. SAC Baseball Explodes for 30 Runs in Blowout Win Over Compton

Compton, Calif. – In their highest scoring game of the season, the Mounties scored five times as many runs as the Tartars in their 30-6 victory over Compton College on Tuesday, April 8. Following this win, the Mounties' record improves to 27-5 overall and 14-2 in the South Coast Conference. Meanwhile, the Tartars fall to 7-24 overall and 4-12 in conference action. Mt. SAC remains in the No. 2 position on the CCCSIA State Baseball Top 25 list after a tough series against Cerritos last week.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Mt. SAC took control from the beginning, jumping to a 4-0 lead in the first inning when Ty Thomas blasted a three-run homer and Jackson Giacone hit an RBI single. The Mounties continued their assault in the second inning with a sacrifice fly from Thomas to make it 5-0.

A seven-run third inning extended the lead to 12-0, with key contributions from singles by Diego Ortiz, Noah Rodriguez, and Miguel Perez as well as a sacrifice fly from Landon White. In the fourth, a wild pitch and a 2-RBI single from Tyler Stull helped the Mounties reach their halfway point at15-0.

Compton got on the board in the fourth, narrowing the score to 15-2, but Mt. SAC answered in the fifth with homers from Cole Nachreiner and Perez, and doubles from White and Thomas, increasing their lead to 22-2. The Tartars tried to rally in the bottom of the fifth with extra-base hits from Zaid Humphrey and Anthony Manuel, but Mt. SAC remained in control, leading 22-5.

In the sixth, additional runs came from doubles by White and Thomas, a sacrifice fly from Terrell Jackson Jr., and a single from Diego Villa to bring the score to 26-5. Compton's final run came in the eighth inning, but the Mounties sealed the win with four more runs in the ninth, capped by singles from Bryan Bradshaw, Perez, and Villa.

Izeah Muniz bounced back from a tough loss to Cerritos last week, earning his eighth win of the season after facing 24 batters and striking out six.
