Monterey Park, Calif. – After a narrow 2-1 loss to Orange Coast College (23-4) over the weekend, Mt. SAC came back strong with a commanding 14-5 victory over East Los Angeles College (ELAC) on Monday. This marks the third time the Mounties have defeated ELAC this season. Mt. SAC now holds a 20-11 overall record and sits in fourth place in the South Coast Conference with a 14-5 conference record. ELAC, on the other hand, remains toward the bottom of the conference, ranking eighth with a 7-23 overall record and 2-14 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Mounties came out firing in the top of the first inning, putting up six runs. The rally began with a single from Vyanca Clark, bringing home the first run. Samantha Vizcarra grounded out to third, but Raygoza crossed the plate to make it 2-0. Isabella Aspeitia followed with a double to right field, scoring Samantha Orozco and Vanessa Tamayo. Katie Griego then singled to left, bringing Aspeitia home, and Amanda Porterfield came across on a walk to Raygoza. The Mounties went through the entire lineup, taking a commanding 6-0 lead after the first inning.
Mt. SAC added to their lead in the fourth when Peyton Clark singled to left field to score Natalie Valiente, making it 7-0. ELAC responded with a double from Arianna Urias in the bottom of the fourth, putting the Huskies on the board at 7-1.
The Mounties' offense continued to roll in the fifth. Kiana Kadena reached on an error by ELAC's catcher, allowing Kayden Connaty to score. Audrey White then doubled to center field, scoring Kadena, followed by Clark, who singled to center to bring White home. Kamyla Cerda added a single to center, driving in Desiree Morales, and Connaty capped off the scoring with a triple that brought home Cerda and Clark.
Despite the large deficit, the Huskies fought back in the bottom of the fifth. Urias blasted a grand slam to left field, closing the gap to 14-5, but that would be the final score.
