Walnut, Calif. – After dropping two games to Cerritos College, the Mt. SAC Baseball Team bounced back with a 6-2 win on Saturday, April 5, preventing the Falcons from completing a series sweep. Despite the brief setback, the Mounties maintain their top spot in the South Coast Conference with a 26-5 overall record and 13-2 in conference play. The Falcons follow closely behind with a 24-7 record and 11-4 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

For the first time in the series, the Mounties struck first. In the fourth inning, Ty Thomas and Tyler Stull each delivered an RBI single, bringing home Bryan Bradshaw and Landon White for a 2-0 lead.

Cerritos responded in the top of the fifth when Nate Gardenswartz's sacrifice fly to left field allowed Mateo Heredia to score, cutting Mt. SAC's lead to 2-1.

The Mounties quickly added to their advantage in the bottom of the fifth as White singled to bring in Terrell Jackson Jr., making it 3-1. The Falcons narrowed the gap once again in the top of the sixth when Isaiah Rios reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Evan Saito to score unearned, making it 3-2.

However, the Mounties finished strong. In the bottom of the sixth, Jackson Giacone smacked an RBI double, scoring Miguel Perez. White then doubled in the seventh to bring in Bradshaw and Jackson Jr., securing the 6-2 win.

Brenden Menchaca picked up his fifth win of the season, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out six. Sam Silversmith earned the save, throwing 3.1 innings with five strikeouts to maintain the lead.
