(Walnut, CA) Sophomore Water Polo Student-Athlete Eli Lew (Crean Lutheran H.S.) was named the 2019 California Community College Counselors/Advisors Academic Association for Athletics (3C4A) Student-Athlete Achievement Award Winner.  The award, given annually by the 3C4A, honors a male and female student-athlete who have overcome great personal, academic and/or emotional odds to achieve success while participating in intercollegiate athletics.

Lew was diagnosed at an early age with moderate autism.  Through his perseverance and education, he has learned to adapt with his condition and has overcome the many obstacles associated with autism.  A starting attacker on the Men’s Water Polo Team, Lew has maintained an impressive 3.88 GPA through his first three semesters, including a perfect 4.0 during his freshman water polo season.

The friendly, kind and engaging, environmental studies major has made a tremendous impression on his teammates, professors, coaches and the Mt. SAC Athletic Counseling Staff who put his nomination forward with the 3C4A.  Lew joins Katrina Pietrantoni (Dance, 2013), Steven Munoz (Water Polo/Swim, 2009) and Rulon Davis (Football, 2006) as only the 4th Mountie to win this distinguished honor.

Lew will receive his award and be recognized at the Celebration of Scholar-Athletes Luncheon, which will be held on March 27th, at the California Community College Athletic Association Annual Convention, in Concord (CA).

The 3C4A is an organization established to bring together individuals who provide academic counseling, advisement and assistance for student-athletes at the California community college level.  For more information on the 3C4A, please visit their website at www.3c4a.org.
