
Norwalk, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Track and Field Team claimed victory at the 2025 3C2A SoCal Combined Events Regional Championships, securing a dominant win in the Women's Heptathlon with a total score of 18 points at Cerritos College on April 1-2. Sophomore Carlota Romay Rega led the team with a first-place finish, earning 10 points, while freshman Alessandra Jefferson followed closely behind in second place with 8 points, combining their efforts to clinch the team title.
The heptathlon is a grueling event consisting of seven events: 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200-meter dash, long jump, javelin, and 800-meter run.
Romay Rega excelled throughout the competition, finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.43 seconds, followed by a first-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 5' 2.25". She placed fourth in the shot put (27' 4"), sixth in both the 200-meter dash (27.19) and the long jump (14' 1.25"), and third in the javelin (77' 11"). She wrapped up her impressive performance with a first-place finish in the 800 meters, completing the race in 2:30.78 to secure her spot as the top performer in Southern California.
Jefferson had a strong showing as well, starting the competition with a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (16.53). She then placed eighth in the high jump (4' 6") and third in the shot put (27' 8.75"). Jefferson ran the 200 meters in 26.98 seconds for a second-place finish, and leapt to third place in the long jump with a distance of 16' 2.5". She concluded her heptathlon with a first-place finish in the javelin (90' 3") and a third-place finish in the 800 meters (2:33.47).
The remarkable performances of Romay Rega and Jefferson highlighted the dedication and talent of the Mt. SAC athletes, who showcased their ability to dominate in seven diverse events. Their combined efforts not only secured the individual podium finishes but also solidified the Mt. SAC Women's Track and Field Team's victory at the regional championships.
