Walnut, Calif. – Beneath a stunning hot-pink sky, the No. 6-seeded Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team put their skills on display with a 3-0 shutout against No. 11-seeded Southwestern in the second round of the SoCal Regionals on Saturday, November 22. With the win, the Mounties improve to 14-4-3, while the Jaguars conclude their season at 15-4-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The day began chaotically for Southwestern, whose team bus was stuck for hours due to a police shooting and standoff that shut down both directions of the 5 Freeway. After a long delay and a rushed arrival just minutes before kickoff, the Jaguars stepped onto the pitch—but the Mounties were ready from the first whistle.
Mt. SAC controlled the match from start to finish. Hannah Zuniga opened the scoring in the 18th minute, finishing a pass from Yuliana Jimenez to give the Mounties a 1–0 advantage heading into halftime.
Nadine Padilla doubled the lead in the 57th minute, assisted by Eden Ramirez, before Padilla returned the favor later in the match—setting up Jimenez for a smooth finish in the 76th minute to secure the 3–0 victory.
Southwestern managed four shots on goal, but Mt. SAC goalkeeper Zanette Gonzalez was flawless, recording four saves to preserve the clean sheet and anchor a steady Mountie backline.
NEXT UP:
The Mounties advance to the next round of the SoCal Regionals, where they will face the winner of the matchup between No. 3 Long Beach City and No. 19 Citrus. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, November 25 with the time still to be determined.
