Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team made a strong statement in their South Coast Conference opener, powering past Cerritos College with a 4-1 victory on Tuesday, October 7. The Mounties now sit at 6-2-2 overall and 1-0 in SCC play, while the Falcons fall to 1-8-1 and 0-1 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After a tightly contested and scoreless first half, the Mounties flipped the switch in the second. Eden Ramirez broke through in the 53rd minute, finishing a play set up by Jillian Harriman to give Mt. SAC the lead. Cerritos responded just two minutes later with the equalizer—but the tie didn't last long.

Ramirez wasn't done. She struck again in the 65th minute, this time assisted by Valerie Potesio, restoring the Mounties' lead at 2-1.

From there, the momentum was all Mt. SAC. Zophia Romero tallied her first goal of the season off a smooth setup from Yuliana Jimenez. Moments later, Victoria Boyde also notched her first of the year, finding the net thanks to an assist by Samantha Sanchez.

The Mounties' offense fired on all cylinders in the second half, putting up four goals in just over 30 minutes to secure the dominant win.

NEXT UP:

Mt. SAC travels to face East Los Angeles College (3-6-1) on Tuesday, October 14, at 4:00 PM in their next SCC matchup.
