The Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo Team defeated Rio Hondo College, winning 20-10 in their conference opener, on Wednesday, October 2.

The Mounties got off to a hot start, scoring nine goals in the first quarter, while limiting the Roadrunners to three. Mt. SAC maintained their lead throughout the game, preventing Rio Hondo from narrowing the gap.

Trevor Davis was a standout performer, netting three goals on four attempts. Contributions came from a range of players including George Roby Unkovich, Matthew Leeworthy, Ruben Villanueva, Michael McMillan, Nico Lara, Ryan Ketring, Luke Fulkerson, Lucas Heath, Jack Painton, Parker Montgomery, John  Doverspike and Sebastian Candela. The team finished with a shooting percentage of 52.6%, scoring 20 goals on 38 attempts.

Goalkeepers Elijah Swaim and Zayd Karim combined for a total of eight saves, effectively stifling the Roadrunners' scoring attempts.

Head Coach Marc Ruh commented on the match stating, "The team played very well and it was great to get the win in that first conference game of the season. We are looking forward to a very competitive conference season ahead of us."

The Mounties had previously faced the Roadrunners at the Mt. SAC Tournament on September 20, where they also secured a win, taking that match 14-9.

With this victory, the Mounties improve their record to 11-8 and are currently ranked No. 10 in the CCCWPCA poll. Rio Hondo falls to 4-8 and is not ranked at this time.

Next up, the Mounties will host Chaffey College on Wednesday, October 9, at 4:30 PM. Come out to support the team!
