Walnut, Calif. – Top-seeded Mt. SAC Baseball made quick work of the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs, sweeping No. 24 seed College of the Desert in two decisive games: a 5-0 win on Friday, May 2, followed by an 8-2 victory on Saturday, May 3. The Mounties advance with an impressive 37-5 overall record, while Desert wraps up its season at 23-18.

GAME 1:

The Mounties wasted no time setting the tone in Game 1. Tyler Stull's RBI single in the bottom of the first brought in Landon White to give Mt. SAC an early 1-0 lead. White then returned the favor with a sacrifice fly in the second, scoring Noah Rodriguez to double the advantage.

A three-run sixth inning sealed the deal for Mt. SAC. Bryan Bradshaw crossed home on a bases-loaded walk before Miguel Perez delivered a two-RBI single to bring in Ty Thomas and White, capping the scoring at 5-0.

Starting pitcher Izeah Muniz dominated on the mound, striking out seven over six shutout innings while allowing just five hits. Relievers Joey Peralta, Matt Viveros, and Sam Silversmith each pitched a scoreless inning to complete the shutout.

GAME 2:

Game 2 saw more early offense from the Mounties. A Thomas double and a Stull groundout made it 2-0 after one inning. Rodriguez extended the lead in the second with an RBI single, and Mt. SAC kept rolling in the third with run-scoring plays from Perez and Cole Nachreiner, making it 5-0.

Desert got on the board in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Michael Gonsalez, but Mt. SAC answered right back. Bradshaw tripled and White doubled in the fourth, pushing the lead to 7-1. A final insurance run came in the seventh on a Nachreiner groundout.

Hudson Castillo earned his 10th win of the season, pitching six solid innings with five hits, two runs, and seven strikeouts. Brenden Menchaca and Silversmith closed it out, allowing no further damage.
