Mt. SAC Women’s Wrestling Finishes as Runner-Up in 3C2A State Team Duals Championships

(Fresno, CA) For the second year in a row, the Mt. SAC Women's Wrestling team finished as runner-up in the 3C2A State Team Wrestling Championships as they fell to conference rival Cerritos College, 36-13, at Fresno City College on Saturday, March 9.

Leading the Mounties in their three matches were Herminia Estrada (123 lbs.), Nadia Hernandez (128), and Tiffany Yanagi (109) with two pins each.

Mt. SAC, which lost to the two-time champion Falcons in the inaugural 2023 season of women's wrestling, opened the championships with a 48-0 win over Bakersfield.

The Mounties won seven of the 10 weight classes by pin and the other three by forfeit.

Recording pins for the Mounties were Valerie Ng (102 lbs.), Yanagi (109), Estrada (123), Hernandez (128), Bella Llamas (136), Gen Deleon (148), and Omari Mitchell-Sheard (220).

In their semifinal win over East Los Angeles College, the Mounties outpointed the Huskies, 36-24, with seven pins.

Tied 12-12 after four matches, Mt. SAC won the next three (128, 136, and 148) by a pin, as Elizabeth Carrillo gave the Mounties a 30-12 lead in the 148 lb. weight class with four matches left.

Hayley Huynh (180) wrapped up the win with a pin for the Mounties to lead, 36-18, with one match remaining.

In the championship match, the Falcons won the first three matches to take a 12-0 lead, but the Mounties, behind wins by Estrada (pin), Herminia (decision), and Megan Dean (major decision), took a 13-12 lead.
