(Torrance, CA) Trailing by three points entering the fourth quarter, the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team exploded for 32 points and won going away, 71-57 over the El Camino College Warriors, in a South Coast Conference crossover game Friday night.
With the Mounties (16-4) trailing 42-39 entering the final quarter, guard Deja Siaki led the charge scoring 13 of her 16 points, including three 3-pointers and a perfect four of four free throws.
Mt. SAC forward Jonnae Vermillion (8 of 14 FG, 9 of 12 FT) led all scorers with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while guard Dominique McLaughlin added 13 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals.
The Mounties took a three-point first-quarter lead, 14-11 but were tied by the Warriors at the half, 26-26. Vermillion scored 13 of her 25 points in the opening half for the Mounties.
After the Warriors outscored the Mounties, 16-11 in the third for the three-point advantage 42-39, the Mounties began the fourth-quarter surge with a 10-4 run, led by a tip in by guard Imani Cole (6 points) and a free throw to tie the game at 44-44 with a minute gone.
That was followed by a 3-pointer by McLaughlin with 8:32 left and the Mounties never trailed again with a 47-44 lead.
They finished the last eight minutes of the game outscoring the Warriors 24-13 for the win.
Guard MyJoi Adams (3 of 4 FG, 3 RB) added seven points for the Mounties.
Mt. SAC enters the final stretch of the season with 10 games in South Coast Conference North action, beginning with a home game on Wednesday January 17 against Chaffey College (11-7), Tip-off is at 5:00 pm.
