(Walnut, CA) With the 2024 3C2A softball playoffs right around the corner, Mt. SAC ended the regular season in fine fashion with an extra-inning 2-1 win over visiting L.A. Mission.

With the score tied 1-1 in the eighth inning, upstepped one of the many exceptional players who have played at Mt. SAC through the years – Janis Espinoza. The sophomore calmly delivered a single up the middle, scoring freshman shortstop Katie Griego from second base for the walk-off non-conference win – on sophomore day. That hit ended a two-year regular season successful career for the third baseman.

All that is ahead is the postseason for Espinoza and the Mounties. The playoff bracket will be announced over the weekend with Mt. SAC (32-8) hoping for a SoCal home series.

In a game dominated by pitching on both sides, the three pitchers allowed nine total hits. Mt. SAC took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly to left field by freshman left fielder Gabrielle Flores, scoring designated player Mercedes Alba. L.A. Mission tied the game 1-1 an inning later on a solo home run.

Mt. SAC sophomore pitcher Aleyna Urbina (11-6) allowed just two hits over the final five innings while striking out four batters.
