(Fresno, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Cross Team ended their 2017 journey with a California Community College Athletic Association State Championship.  Mt. SAC lived up to their number one state ranking, defeating runner-up and defending state champion Riverside City College, 60-65.  Mt. SAC placed 5 guys in the top 22 (1st, 3rd, 16th, 18th and 22nd), running a team time of 1:43:11.

Manuel Fernandez captured the individual championship and was highest finisher for the Mounties, winning the individual championship in the field of 175 runners, with a time of 20:16 over the 4-mile historic Woodwark Park Course.  Along with Fernandez, Anthony Alfaro also medaled (top 14 places) taking 3rd place with a time of 20:29.

The historic win also marks the second time in Mt. SAC History where both the men's and women's program captured concurrent state championships (1989 season).

The Mounties finish the season with an undefeated record against community college competition and take home the second state championship in program history.  The traditionally powerful men's program last captured the CCCAA State Championship in 1989, but has finished second at the state championships an amazing 12 times. The Mounties end the season with the "Triple Crown" of cross country that also includes a South Coast Conference and Southern California Championship.
