Mountie Men's Track & Field wins SCC title in dominating fashion

(Norwalk, CA) In convincing fashion, the Mt. San Antonio College Men's Track and Field team won its second consecutive—and seventh of the last eight—South Coast Conference title with 422 points at the SCC Finals at Cerritos College on Saturday, April 29. Cerritos College came in second with 142 points and El Camino College took third with 103.

In total, the Mounties took first in 14 events, second in 13, and third in 10.

First-place Mt. SAC field event performances came from Matthew Mannino (javelin), Tylor Connelly (shot put), Terrence Sweetman (triple jump), Marcus Monroe (long jump, high jump), Ethan Amata (pole vault). On the track were Carson Baldevia (3000 steeplechase), Jalen Griego (10,000 meters, 5000 meters), Andres Chavez (1500 meters), Jake Jensen (200 meters, 100 meters), the 4x100 relay team (Namir Hemphil, Kerry Smith, Jensen, Jacob Williams), and the 4x400 relay team (Thomas Scofano, Nicholas Vargas, Mario Marsetti, Smith).

Williams (100 meters), Scofano (800 meters), Manuel Debarros (1500 meters), Austin Ledgerwood (5000 meters, 10,000 meters), Christian Baker (110 hurdles), Brad Riehl (400 hurdles), Mario Perez (3000 steeplechase), Jered Beasley (pole vault), Garren Haynes (long jump), Michael Stine III (discus, javelin), and Connelly (hammer) took second in their events for the Mounties.

Third-place finishes for Mt. SAC included Jesus Isiordia (hammer), Cory Gamero (discus), Jerry Roberts (triple jump), Justin Beltran (pole vault), Landen Breckner (3000 steeplechase), Louis Torres (10,000 meters, 5000 meters), Jonathan Aguilar (1500 meters), Anthony Lopez (800 meters), and Smith (100 meters).

Of particular note, Mountie athletes occupied the top four spots in the 100 meters and the 1500 meters, the top six in 5000 meters, the top three in the 3000 steeplechase, the top seven in the pole vault, the top two in the long jump, and the top two in the javelin.

Next up for Mt. SAC are the California Community College Athletic Association SoCal Prelims at San Diego Mesa College on Friday, May 5. The SoCal Finals will take place on Friday, May 12, also at SD Mesa.
