Mt. SAC Baseball Sweeps Allan Hancock in Opening Round of SoCal Regionals, Super Regionals Next

(Walnut, CA) In a best-of-three series in the opening round of the 3C2A Southern California Regionals, No. 7 seed and host Mt. San Antonio College (29-13) swept No. 18 Allan Hancock College (22-20) on Friday and Saturday, May 3-4, by the scores of 5-1 and 12-2.

The Mounties will face No. 11 Cuesta College (32-10) in the Super Regionals at Palomar College on Thursday, May 9, at 11 a.m. The double-elimination round-robin regional also includes No. 2 Palomar (32-9).

Mt. SAC 5 Allan Hancock 1

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Mt. SAC broke a scoreless tie on a double by Gibby Morales (2-4, 2 R, RBI. 2B) that scored Kaden Moeller (1-3, 2 R, RBI) from first. Morales later scored the team's second run on a passed ball to put the hosts up 2-0.

The Bulldogs scored once in the top of the eighth, but the Mounties added three more in the bottom of the same inning to take a 5-1 lead, which is how the game ended.

Other top hitters for Mt. SAC included Ty Thomas (1-3, RBI) and Joel Gutierrez (1-1, RBI). In addition, Joey Rossetti (1-4, R) stole a base for the Mounties.

Matthew Lorenzano (9-2) went the distance for Mt. SAC, throwing nine innings, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out eight.

The Mounties took a commanding 6-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth before AHC got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. That's all the Bulldogs could muster as Mt. SAC tacked on one in the seventh and five more in the eighth.

Rossetti (3-5, R, 2 RBI), Bryan Bradshaw (2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI), Blake Hagerty (2-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 3B), Daniel Briones (2-3, 2 R, 2B), Thomas (2-5), and Diego Ortiz (2-5, R, RBI, HR) were among the top hitters for the Mounties.

On the basepaths, Morales stole a base for Mt. SAC.

Pitching 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out six, starter Kyle Calzadiaz (6-2) got the win for the Mounties.
