Mountie Baseball defeats Rio Hondo in convincing fashion to earn SCC win

(Whittier, CA) In the second game of a three-game series, and by a score worthy of a football game, Mt. San Antonio College (21-12, 10-7) handed host Rio Hondo College (9-24, 5-12) a 25-7 South Coast Conference defeat on Thursday, April 11. The win is the Mounties' fourth in a row and eighth in their last nine. During the four-game win streak, Mt. SAC is averaging more than 14 runs per game.

On Thursday, the Mounties posted 18 runs before the Roadrunners scored one in the bottom of the fourth. By the end of the seventh, RHC narrowed the gap to 20-7, only to see Mt. SAC score five more in the top of the ninth to seal the win.

The Mounties compiled 22 hits on the day, an offensive explosion fueled by several players, including Gibby Morales (3-3, 4 R, 2 RBI, 2B), Andrew Walters (2-3, 4 R, 6 RBI, 2 HR), Jake Hernandez (2-3, 2 R, RBI), Ty Thomas (3-6, 2 R, 6 RBI, 2 2B, HR), Bradyn France (2-4, 2 R, RBI, 2B), Daniel Briones (2-3, 2 R, RBI, 2B), and Andrew Ramirez (1-3, 2 R, 3 RBI, HR).

Pitching five complete innings, allowing one run (unearned) on two hits, and striking out three, starter Kyle Calzadiaz got the win for Mt. SAC, improving to 4-1 on the season with a 3.86 ERA.

The teams will face each other again on Friday, April 12, at 3 p.m. to close out the series.

Currently, the Mounties are in third place in the SCC standings behind Cerritos College (29-5, 16-2) and Long Beach City College (24-9, 13-4).
