Mountie Baseball completes three-game sweep of Compton to win fourth straight

(Walnut, CA) Host Mt. San Antonio College (13-6, 5-1) completed a three-game sweep of Compton College (5-12, 4-5) in a South Coast Conference series with a 10-9 come-from-behind win on Saturday, March 9.

Trailing 6-3 through three innings, the Mounties tied the game at six in the bottom of the fifth and then opened up a 9-6 lead with one in the sixth and two in the seventh. The Tartars responded by tying the game with three in the top of the eighth only to see Mt. SAC score the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out solo home run by Bradyn France (1-1, R, RBI).

Several players helped spark the Mountie offense, including Joel Gutierrez (4-4, 2 R. RBI, 2B), Kaden Moeller (3-4, 2 R, 2 RBI), Diego Ortiz (3-5, R), Daniel Briones (1-4, R, RBI, 2B), and Nick Mejia (1-1, 2 RBI, 3B). In addition, Joel Quemada (1-3, R, RBI) and Joey Rossetti (1-4) each stole a base for the home team.

Starter Kyle Calzadiaz threw three innings, allowed six runs (three earned), and struck out five but didn't get the decision. Reliever Matt Viveros (1-0) picked up the win instead, pitching 0.2 innings, and Jaden Mackowiak (1.0 IP) got the save, his first of the season.

Mt. SAC hits the road for the first of a three-game SCC series against Cerritos College (17-4, 8-1) on Tuesday, March 12, at 2 p.m. Game 2 will be in Walnut on Thursday, March 14, at 2 p.m. and Game 3 in Norwalk on Saturday, March 16, at noon.
