The Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Team triumphed over Mt. San Jacinto in a 3-1 match on Friday, September 20, proving their skills on home turf. After dropping the first set 25-21, the Mounties rallied back to take the next three sets, each by a score of 25-19. Mt. SAC demonstrated their offensive strength with 54 kills and their defensive skills with 89 digs throughout the match.
"Mt. San Jacinto is arguably the scrappiest defensive team we have played all preseason," Coach Neely commented. "They came to compete and I'm proud of the way our girls responded to some of those longer rallies. They were gritty, played together and trusted our ability to close out the match after losing a close first set. With this match, we finish preseason and are looking forward to starting conference next week!"
Middle blocker Itzel Aguayo took some huge swings, recording six kills, and was a wall up at the net accounting for eight blocks. Liberos Freda Lei and Mayah Tiscareno were vital in covering our hitters, prolonging rallies and making 15 clutch digs each to put the team in position to score. Outside hitter Candace Ceballos had another outstanding performance, playing solidly in both the front row with 12 kills and one block, and the back row with 14 digs.
With this win, Mt. SAC improves its season record to 9-4, while Mt. San Jacinto falls to 6-8. The Mounties will play away against El Camino on Wednesday, September 25.
