The Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Team faced their toughest challenge of the season on Wednesday, August 28, emerging victorious with a 3-2 win over Santa Monica College. The match was the first time this season that the women were pushed to a full five sets.
The Mounties started strong, claiming the opening set with a comfortable 25-15 win, but the Corsairs battled back and leveled the match with a 25-21 win in the second set. The next three sets were highly competitive, with each side narrowly winning by the required two-point margin. Santa Monica edged out Mt. SAC in the third set, 25-23, putting the Mounties at risk of their first loss of the season.
Determined to maintain their unbeaten record, the team fought hard in the fourth set, ultimately prevailing 26-24 after extra points. With the match tied at 2-2, the final set became a do-or-die tiebreaker. The Mounties clinched the match with a close 15-13 victory in the fifth set, preserving their perfect record and demonstrating their resilience under pressure.
Currently ranked #2 in Southern California and #6 in the state, the Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Team faced a strong opponent in Santa Monica College, which, coming off one of their best seasons in program history, is ranked #12 in Southern California and #20 in the state.
Key performances came from outside hitters Candace Ceballos and Emma Carson. Ceballos delivered a powerful performance recording 13 kills and 13 digs, and Carson added 10 kills and six digs. Defensive specialist Mayah Tiscareno fiercely defended the court with 18 digs.
The Mounties will continue their season at the Mt. SAC Tri Tournament on Friday, August 30, with home matches scheduled against Irvine Valley College at 10 AM and the defending state champions, San Diego Mesa, at 2 PM.
