
Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team wrapped up an outstanding regular season with a 3-1 win over Long Beach City College on Tuesday, November 5. With this victory, the Mounties secured the South Coast Conference North Division championship, finishing with a perfect 9-0 in conference play. This marks the third consecutive year that the team has claimed the divisional title.
The Mounties got off to a strong start in the match, with Noely Rodriguez opening the scoring in the 30th minute with a stunning direct kick to give Mt. SAC a 1-0 lead. The second half saw two more goals for the Mounties, both assisted by Michelle Vazquez. Vivian Lopez extended the lead in the 46th minute, and just five minutes later, Yaritza Chavez added a third goal in the 51st minute.
Long Beach City College scored their lone goal in the 65th minute, but the Mounties' defense, anchored by goalkeeper Anai Olmedo, held firm to preserve the lead. Olmedo made three crucial saves throughout the match, ensuring the victory.
Head Coach Juan Sanchez praised the team's performance, saying, "Going 9-0 in conference play is a huge achievement, and it wasn't easy. We had a bit of a rough start to the season, but the team really turned things around. I'm incredibly proud of how they've been playing and how they've worked together."
Looking ahead, the Mounties will compete in the South Coast Conference Tournament, which begins Friday. As a result of their perfect conference record, Mt. SAC has earned a first-round bye and will play in the tournament's second round on Tuesday, November 12. The opponent, time, and location will be determined following the first round of play.
