(Fresno, CA) The CCCAA Wrestling Dual Team Championships was a match-up between the new and old guards of wrestling. Although the new guard Mounties gave a valiant effort, it was host and traditional powerhouse, Fresno City College, who came out on top, 23-15, to capture the 2nd ever CCCAA Wrestling Dual Team Championship.
The Mounties started the match off with three consecutive losses in the lower weight classes, including a fall and a major decision in the first two matches. The first glimpse of hope for the Mounties came when Lorenzo Medina, pinned Stevie Mejia only 22 seconds into the 149 lbs. match. Although Mt. SAC captured three more matches, Medina's fall proved to be the only condition other than a decision (3 points). The Rams captured 6 of the 10 matches, including a fall and 2 major decisions to give them the 23 points and the championship.

Since his arrival, young Head Coach, David Rivera, has transformed the Mt. SAC program into one of the top programs at the community college level. Last season the Mounties captured the first ever recognized CCCAA Wrestling Dual Team Championship by defeating Sacramento City College at home and took second place team honors overall at the individual state championships. This season, the Mounties defended their Dual Team Championship against traditional powerhouse Fresno City College. Fresno City has had more individual state wrestling champions and more team championships (12) than any other program in the state.
