Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team ran away with another win when they defeated LA Trade-Tech, 90-50, on Wednesday, January 29. The Mounties continue to dominate the South Coast Conference with a 19-4 overall record, while the Beavers drop down to a .500 winning percentage at 11-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mt. SAC wasted no time in showcasing their skills, as Daisia Mitchell landed a jump shot seconds into the game, marking a strong return from injury. Layups from Alana Diaz and Elizabeth Udeze, combined with outside shots from Ryan Riddle, kept the Mounties in control. However, it was Taliyah McFerson who powered the offense, racking up 10 points in the first quarter. Serenity Johnson and Ariana Harper chipped in four points each for the Beavers, but their defense struggled, managing only three rebounds compared to Mt. SAC's 15 – a key factor in the game's outcome.
The Beavers found some rhythm in the second quarter, posting their highest-scoring period with 16 points. Akilah Watson led the charge with six, while Tylan Adams and Harper each contributed five. Although this was the Mounties' least impressive period, with a total of 15 points and 8 rebounds, they remained ahead with a score of 42-26 at the half.
The Mounties continued to power through the game with McFerson adding an impressive 12 points in the third, and Alana Diaz contributing 7 points while they combined for 8 rebounds. In the final period, Naomi Acuna, Frances Potts, and Diaz fueled the offense with 25 points, sealing Mt. SAC's decisive victory. Watson and Johnson tried to close the gap, but with only a single rebound for the Beavers in the fourth, they were outplayed by the Mounties on both ends of the court.
In the end, the Mounties recorded 63 rebounds and 20 assists compared to the Beavers' 22 rebounds and 2 assists. Despite LA Trade-Tech capitalizing on turnovers with 19 points off Mt. SAC's 26 giveaways, the Mounties proved their depth with 20 bench points, outpacing the Beavers' two.
