Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team started 2025 off with an impressive win, defeating Palomar 73-30 on Saturday, January 4. The Mounties' record now sits at 14-3, while the Comets fall to 8-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Mounties set the tone early, jumping out to a strong lead with a 15-point run fueled by contributions from Elizabeth Udeze, Taliyah McFerson, Daisia Mitchell, and Alana Diaz. The Comets finally got on the board after six minutes of play thanks to a jump shot from Angelina Leon and a three-pointer by Neveah Mageo.
Mt. SAC's dominance continued in the second quarter, outscoring Palomar 18-8. The Mounties paired a strong offense with relentless defense, racking up 9 rebounds and 6 steals, heading into halftime with a commanding 42-15 lead.
The Mounties kept the pressure on in the second half. McFerson contributed 6 points and 4 rebounds in the third quarter, supported by 4 points each from Udeze and Mitchell, helping Mt. SAC outscore Palomar 16-5. Despite the Comets' highest-scoring quarter in the fourth, with 10 points, the Mounties added 15 more points with key contributions from Ryann Riddle, Frances Potts, and Loremy Lopez to seal the victory.
The Mounties capitalized on Palomar's 21 turnovers, converting them into 27 points, and dominated in the paint with 44 points compared to the Comets' 18. The largest lead of the game came in the fourth quarter, with the Mounties ahead by 44 points, showcasing their control throughout the matchup.
