Walnut, Calif. – The No. 4 ranked Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team continued their strong start to the season with a 61-53 victory over No. 2 ranked Orange Coast College on Wednesday, November 13. With this win, the Mounties improve to a 3-1 record, with their only loss so far a narrow one-point defeat to No. 1 College of the Sequoias.
Last year's South Division State Player of the Year, Daisia Mitchell, was outstanding on both ends of the court. Mitchell led the Mounties with 21 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc—accounting for more than 34% of the team's total points. She also grabbed 13 rebounds and tallied four steals. Alana Diaz contributed 10 points, including four from the field and two from the free-throw line, helping the Mounties stay ahead throughout the game.
For Orange Coast, Alyssa Dreessen led the way with 14 points and seven rebounds. Hailey Estrada added 12 points and five rebounds, while Myia Collins posted nine points and 13 rebounds. Despite the solid efforts from the Pirates' top players, they were unable to overcome Mitchell's all-around performance and the Mounties' balanced attack.
The Mounties dominated offensively, shooting 42.2% from the field, 57.1% from three-point range, and 60% from the free-throw line. In contrast, Orange Coast struggled with their shooting, hitting just 35.4% from the field, 26.3% from three-point range, and 50% from the charity stripe. Both teams were nearly even on the boards, with Mt. SAC recording 39 rebounds to Orange Coast's 40, and the Mounties finished with three blocks to the Pirates' four.
Up next, the Mounties will host Sacramento City College on Saturday, November 16, at 5:00 PM. Sacramento City enters the matchup with a 2-2 record.
