(Walnut, CA) For the second game in a row, Mt. SAC sophomore guard Dailani Richardson led all scorers and the Mounties into the championship game of the Linda G. Smith Memorial Tip-Off Tournament with a 62-47 victory over Long Beach City College on Saturday, November 4, in a semifinal game.
With this win, the Mounties improved to 2-0 and will have a rematch with Butte, a 68-56 winner over Moorpark in the other semifinal. These two teams met in last year's title game of the Tip-Off tourney, with Butte coming out on top.
Richardson (7-14 FGM-A, 2-2 FTM-A, 7 RB, 4 A, 2 Stls.) scored 23 points in the opening game of the tourney and followed up with 20 points against the Vikings. Richardson also led with four three-pointers.
Daisia Mitchell (3-4 FTM-A, 9 RB, 4 A, 1 Stl., 2 Blks.) contributed 14 points, while freshmen Isabella Roderick (3-4 FGM-A, 2-2 FTM-A, 2 RB, 3 Stls, 2 Blks.) and Aanisah Moncrief (9 RB, 4 A, 4 Stls., 1 Blk.) added eight points each for the Mounties.
Mt. SAC took a 29-25 lead at halftime, as LBCC stayed close after three quarters, trailing 42-37, but was outscored by the Mounties in the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Mt. SAC, led by six points from Mitchell, outscored the Vikings 20-10, securing the win.
Other scores on day two of the tourney were: Rio Hondo 62, L.A. Trade Tech 44, and Hope International JV 55, San Diego City College 46.
