(Ventura, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team began the first of three tournaments over the next three weeks in winning fashion with a 79-69 win over Cypress College Thursday (November 18) at the 23rd Annual Ventura College Tournament of Champions.
With the win, the Mounties improved to 5-1.
Mt. SAC advances to the tourney semifinals and will play College of the Canyons (4-0), an 85-38 winner over Napa.
Mt. SAC was led by sophomore Savanna Norfleet (7-12 FGM-A, 2-4 3Pt-A, 2-2 FTM-A, 5 RB, 2 Stls.) with a team-high 18 points. Three other players scored in double figures – Elle Yick (3-8 FGM-A, 4-6 FTM-A, 15 Pts.), Skylarr Little (5-6 FGM-A, 2-2 FTM-A, 9 RB, 12 Pts.), and Briana Lizardi (4-5 FGM-A, 3-4 FTM-A, 2 Stls., 11 Pts.).
The Mounties nearly doubled their rebounds over Cypress with a 41-24 advantage and had 42 points.
The Mounties got off to a 23-25 first-quarter lead and led, 42-28 at the half.
Cypress had a big third quarter, outscoring the Mounties, 27-14, and trailed only a point 56-55.
Mt. SAC came back with a big fourth-quarter outscoring the Chargers, 23-14.
