Mt. SAC Women’s Basketball Loses First SCC North Game; Falls to Rio Hondo, 72-61

Mt. SAC Women's Basketball vs Rio Hondo

(Walnut, CA) After finishing the first half of South Coast Conference North action without a loss (4-0), the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team fell to visiting Rio Hondo College, 72-61 Friday (Feb. 7).

Mt. SAC defeated the Roadrunners in the championship game of the Linda G. Smith Tip-Off Tournament and in the first round of SCC North play.

The Mounties were led by sophomore guard Aujane Mayes with 14 points, while Remy Hare and Lauryn Manns had 10 points each.

Mina Guevera-Goss (9 points) led the Mounties with 12 rebounds.

Amanda Lee had a game-high 24 points for Rio Hondo.

The Mounties trailed Rio Hondo by a point (8-7) early in the first quarter, but a 19-2 Roadrunners run through the midpoint of the second quarter put the Mounties in a big hole, 27-9.

The Mounties finished the first half with a 10-6 run to trail, 33-19.

The third quarter saw the Mounties more than double Rio Hondo, 25-12 and trailed by one after three quarters, 45-44.

Mayes and Manns led the charge in the quarter with 10 and 6 points, respectively.

The Mounties stayed close through the first six and a half minutes of the fourth quarter; after a layup by Mychayl Phillips with 3:32 left in the game, trailed by a basket, 59-57.

The Roadrunners ended the game with a 13-4 run to put the game away.

Mt. SAC travels to L.A. Trade Tech and East L.A. College before returning home for the final game of the regular season Friday Feb. 21.
