(Pasadena, CA) With first place at stake in the South Coast Conference North, the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team defeated host Pasadena City College, 55-47, to remain undefeated (4-0) during the round of conference play.
With the win on Wednesday, the Mounties improved to 19-5 overall. PCC drops to second with a 3-1 conference record and 16-6 overall.
Mt. SAC, ranked No. 6 (CCCWBCA) in Southern California and No. 8 (CCCSIA) in the state, was led by freshman guard Mina Guevera-Goss (7-12 FGM, 3-6 3PM, 3-4 FTM, 2 RB, 3 Assts., Blk, Stl.) with a game-high 20 points.
Taylor Shelby (8 RB, 2 A, Stl.) added seven points, followed by Lauryn Manns (3 RB, 2 A) and Remy Hare (2-3 FGM, 1-1 3PM, 1-2 FTM, 4 RB, A) with six points each.
Mt. SAC led the entire game except midpoint (5:36) in the fourth quarter, when the Lancers grabbed a brief, 44-43 lead.
From there, the Mounties scored points, including a crucial 3-pointer from Guevera-Goss and finished the game on a 12-3 run. Guevera-Goss connected with the long-range shot with 1:21 left in the game to put the Mounties up by eight, 52-44.
The Mounties enter the final stretch of the regular season with four remaining conference games, beginning with Rio Hondo (17-7, 2-2) on Friday (Feb. 7). The Roadrunners currently sit third in conference behind PCC.
