(Visalia, CA) With five players scoring in double figures, the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team easily defeated Solano, 83-52, in the opening game of the 42nd Annual Gilchrist Invitational at College of the Sequoias Thursday (11/29) afternoon.
Tiana Douglas (5-11 FGM, 5-6 FTM, 6 RB, Stl., Blk.) and Jade Hughes (6-10 FGM, 3-4 FTM, 11 RB, 4 Ast., 3 Stl., Blk) led the Mounies with 15 points each. Forward Tianna Burrell (4-7 FGM, 2-5 3PM, 3-4 FTM, 8 RB, Ast., Stl.) added 13, while guards Natalia Shpegel (6-12 FGM, 5 RB, 2 Ast., 6 Stls.) and Lauryn Manns (5-7 FGM, 2-3 FTM, 4 RB, Ast., 2 Stls., Blk) had 12 points each.
In the first half, Mt. SAC outscored the Falcons 42-28 behind 11 points each from Douglas and Hughes. In the third quarter, Burrell scored nine points, which included two 3-pointers to help in the 23-9 advantage for the Mounties.
It was the second time the Mounties scored 23 points in a quarter, along with two 25-point quarters this season.
At the line, the Mounties were 13 for 18 for 72.2% and out rebounded Solano, 47-35.
The Mounties (6-1) will face Sacramento City College, a 50-47 winner over L. A. Valley, Friday (11/30) in a quarterfinal game.
