(Livermore, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team (33-2) successfully defended their 2016 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championship by defeating College of the Siskiyous (31-2), 75-54. With the championship, the Mountie Program surpasses Ventura College and rewrites the record books, with eight women's basketball state championships.
In the state championship tournament, the Mounties defeated their opponents by an average of 16 points, building momentum as they marched through the tournament. In the quarter finals they defeated, Foothill College (23-9), 58-46 and in the semi-finals the Mounties defeated Ventura College (28-6), 67-52.
Sophomore Guard Caira Benton was named the State Championship Tournament MVP. In the three game state championship tournament, Benton scored 31 points and collected 24 rebounds.
Sophomore Forward Kali Jones and Sophomore Guard Maddeline Dopplick were also named to the state championship all-tournament team. In the state championship tournament, Jones provided 21 rebounds, 10 blocks and 30 points, while Dopplick provided 42 points, including a season high of 30 points in the championship game.
Congratulations to Head Coach Brian Crichlow (who has been part of all eight of the state championships and has led the team to four of them as Head Coach (2012, 2013, 2016, 2017)), Assistant Coaches Carsandra Taylor, Zack Hope and Zsa Zsa Lawson and the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team for another outstanding and memorable campaign!
