Mt. SAC Softball Cruises to 9-0 Victory Over Rio Hondo in Five Innings

Walnut, Calif. – In another shutout game, the Mt. SAC Softball Team took down Rio Hondo 9-0 in just five innings on Thursday, April 3. With the win, the Mounties improve to 17-10 overall and 11-5 in South Coast Conference play, while the Roadrunners remain at the bottom of the conference standings with a 3-24 record and 1-16 in league action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Mt. SAC kicked off the scoring with a power move as Morgan Kneubuhler launched her fourth home run of the season to left field, giving the Mounties a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

They added another run in the third when Sarai Raygoza doubled to left field, driving in Audrey White, increasing the lead to 2-0.

The game turned into a one-sided affair in the bottom of the fourth as Mt. SAC exploded for seven more runs. Amanda Porterfield contributed with a solo home run and White reached first on an error by the Rio Hondo centerfielder, allowing Katie Griego and Kneubuhler to score unearned.

Mia Martin then grounded out to second base, allowing Natalie Valiente to cross the plate. White later scored on an RBI single by Isabella Aspeitia, and Samantha Orozco delivered a two-RBI triple to right field, bringing in Aspeitia and Raygoza to seal the 9-0 victory.

Samantha Vizcarra held strong on the mound, pitching four scoreless innings while strking out nine to earn the win.

The Mounties will face Rio Hondo again on Friday, April 4, in Whittier for a rescheduled game originally slated for March 11.
