Riverside, Calif. – In another incredible game, the Mt. SAC Softball Team took down Riverside City College in just five innings on Friday, March 21, with a final score of 11-3. With the win, the Mounties improve to 12-9 on the season, while the Tigers drop to 8-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Riverside got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Rebeca Razo advanced to third, then scored on a throwing error by the Mounties, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

However, Mt. SAC quickly responded with a massive offensive explosion in the top of the second inning, putting up eight runs and sending 13 batters to the plate. Pitcher Samantha Vizcarra set the tone with a double to right-center, driving in Katie Greigo and Morgan Kneubuhler. Sarai Raygoza followed with a single to center, bringing in Vizcarra, and Isabella Guerrero added another run on a wild pitch. Raygozo crossed home on a fielder's choice, and then, in a daring move, Mia Martin stole home. Samantha Orozco drove in Isabella Aspeitia, and a fielding error by the Tigers allowed Orozco to score, giving the Mounties an 8-1 lead.

The Tigers added a run in the bottom of the second after Angelina Sanchez doubled to left-center, and a fielding error allowed Ruby McDonald to score, cutting the lead to 8-2.

The Mounties weren't done, though. In the top of the third, Guerrero scored on a throwing error by the Tigers' third baseman, and Martin crossed the plate on a single from Aspeitia, extending the lead to 10-2. Mt. SAC tacked on one more run in the top of the fifth when Kayden Connaty singled to right, scoring Vyanca Clark.

Riverside added their final run in the bottom of the fifth on a powerful triple from Carissa O'Neil, but it was too little, too late, as the Mounties secured the 11-3 victory.

Notably, Mt. SAC pitcher Samantha Vizcarra was exceptional both at the plate and in the circle. She went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs and a double, while pitching a complete five innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out two batters.
