Mt. SAC Softball blanks Cerritos, 7-0, for ninth consecutive win

(Norwalk, CA) A nine-game winning streak by the Mt. SAC Softball team was highlighted by a 7-0 blanking of host Cerritos College on Tuesday, March 19 in South Coast Conference action.

In that streak, the Mounties pitching has five shutouts and the offense has exploded for 73 runs.

Mt. SAC improved to 17-6 overall and 7-1 in conference and has jumped up in the all-important RPI rankings to third in So Cal.

Highlighting the Cerritos win was a six-run third inning by the Mounties.

Designated player Alyssa Rubalcava (2-3, 2 RBIs) and shortstop Katie Griego (1-2, 2 RBIs) each had two-run singles for four of the six runs.

Sophomore third baseman Janis Espinoza (3-4, 2 Rs, RBI) capped off the scoring with a solo home run, her fourth of the season, in the fourth inning for the 7-0 lead.

In the circle, sophomore pitcher Aleyna Urbina (7-5) scattered nine hits and had a season-high eight strikeouts.

Mt. SAC continues SCC action at LA Harbor on Thursday, March 21 for the second of 12 consecutive road games.
