(Santa Clarita, CA) An eight-run inning led to a shortened game and 9-0 blanking of host College of the Canyons Thursday (February 15) in a non-conference game.
Leading 1-0 in the fifth inning, the Mounties (6-2) exploded for a season-high eight-run inning and won the game due to the eight-run rule after five complete innings.
Sophomore right-hander Alyssa Rubalcava (2-0) pitched five innings in the circle, scattering five hits and struck out four for the win. She was also 2 for 3 at the plate with a double, an RBI and scored two runs.
Sophomore shortstop Janis Espinoza (2-3, R, RBI, Dbl., SB) and freshman first baseman Audrey White (2-2, R, 2 RBIs, Dbl.) also had two hits each for the Mounties.
Highlighting the eight-run fifth, Espinoza and freshman catcher Morgan Knubuhler (1-3, R, RBI) each doubled in a run, and White singled in two runs.
Mt. SAC continues non-conference action with a doubleheader at Cypress on Saturday (Feb. 17).
