
(Walnut, CA) Mt. SAC second baseman Amanda Esquivel hit a two-run home run to lead the Mounties to a 3-1 nonconference win over visiting Palomar Friday afternoon.
Catcher Michelle Santiago opened the second inning with a walk and Sasha Allen came in to pinch ran for her. Alissa Perez then moved Allen over to second base on a sacrifice. One batter later Esquivel (1-1, 2R, 2RBIs, BB) hammered a home run for the Mounties giving them a 2-0 lead.
Palomar cut the lead in half 2-1 in the third inning, but the Mounties answered for an insurance run in the fifth inning.
With two outs in the fifth inning, Mt. SAC first baseman Ciara Granado (1-2, RBI) singled in Esquivel for the 3-1 lead.
Meanwhile, in the circle Briana Wheeler pitched her second consecutive complete game, scattering six hits and a run and struck out two batters for her second win.
