Mt. SAC Men’s Track and Field Runs Away with Conference Title

Long Beach, Calif. – In a commanding display of athletic excellence, the Mt. SAC Men's Track and Field Team claimed the South Coast Conference Championship title with a dominant team performance, earning a total of 392 points. Their margin of victory was staggering, outpacing second-place Cerritos College by 168 points, while Long Beach City College finished third with 69 points.

Mt. SAC's distance squad played a pivotal role in the team's success. In the 800 meters, Noah Gordon led a sweep of the top three places with a winning time of 1:55.99, followed closely by Austin Hernandez (1:57.20) and Noah Chairez (1:57.23). The 1500 meters featured another strong showing as Jordan Berkley clocked a 4:08.79 to win, while Chairez (4:09.60) and Aidan Gomez (4:09.84) placed second and third, respectively. Berkley also added a silver medal in the 5000 meters, finishing in 15:31.03. Joel Fischer brought home gold in the grueling 10,000 meters with a time of 32:31.78, and Logan Berkley added valuable points in fifth.

In the sprints, Kerry Smith Jr. delivered two bronze-medal performances, placing third in both the 200 meters (21.67) and 400 meters (49.02). Smith also contributed to Mt. SAC's relay teams, helping the 4x100 relay squad to a third-place finish in 42.30 and the 4x400 team to a decisive victory in 3:18.21.

The hurdlers were a highlight of the meet, sweeping the top four spots in the 110-meter hurdles. Joshua Cervantes led the charge with a first-place finish in 15.02 seconds, followed by Nicholas Nocero (15.26), Aidan Villasenor (15.26), and Spencer Shuler (15.31) in a tight pack. The 400-meter hurdles saw more dominance, with Nocero (55.71) and Cervantes (55.95) again going one-two. Zachary Felix (57.07) and Shuler (57.16) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, solidifying Mt. SAC's supremacy in the event.

In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Maximiliano Loera (10:05.91) took second place, with teammates Conner Sybrandy (10:07.29) and Alex Figueroa (10:13.00) securing third and fourth.

Mt. SAC's field athletes also delivered top performances. Evan Johnson cleared 6' 2.75" to win the high jump, with teammates Matthew Stauffer (5' 10.75") and Jonah Wilson (5' 10.75") completing a clean sweep of the podium. In the triple jump, Brandyn Wetherspoon soared to first place with a mark of 45' 4.25". Oluwatoni Babatunde dominated the discus with a throw of 144' 8", and Taiyo Ishiguro unleashed a massive 192' 6" effort to win the javelin, supported by a strong showing from Christopher Jimenez at 142' 0".

The team's depth and versatility were on full display throughout the meet, with top-five finishes in nearly every event.
