Norwalk, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Men's Track and Field Team clinched a thrilling victory at the 2025 3C2A SoCal Combined Events Regional Championships in the Men's Decathlon, scoring a total of 12 points to narrowly defeat Cerritos, who finished with 11 points. The Mounties' strong performance was led by Spencer Shuler, who placed fourth overall with 5,928 points, Evan Johnson, who took fifth with 5,813 points, and Josh Mallers, who finished sixth with 5,800 points.

The decathlon, a demanding two-day competition, tests athletes across four running events, three jumps, and three throws. The highest combined points across all events determine the winner, and the Mounties demonstrated resilience and skill every step of the way.

Shuler had a standout performance, with his best showing coming in the 400 meters, where he won first place with a time of 50.41 seconds. He also secured top finishes in the 100 meters (3rd, 11.56), the 110-meter hurdles (3rd, 16.05), and the 1500 meters (4th, 4:47.55). Additionally, he earned solid placements in the long jump (6th, 20' 0.25"), high jump (6th, 5' 6.5"), shot put (8th, 32' 0.75"), discus (8th, 97' 1"), pole vault (7th, 11' 5.75"), and javelin (5th, 138' 10").

Johnson opened the decathlon strong with impressive performances in the 100 meters (1st, 11.52) and long jump (2nd, 21' 0.75"). He also had an excellent showing in the high jump (3rd, 5' 11.25") and pole vault (1st, 14' 1.25"). Though he faced some challenges in other events, including 13th place in the shot put (30' 5.5") and 15th in the 400 meters (56.23), Johnson showed his resilience with a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (15.80) and a third-place finish in the discus (112' 11"). Despite a 12th-place finish in the javelin (122' 8") and a 15th-place finish in the 1500 meters (5:41.79), Johnson's consistent efforts earned him 5th place overall with 5,813 points.

Mallers also had an outstanding two days, finishing 6th overall with 5,800 points. He started strong with a 7th-place finish in the 100 meters (11.73) and leapt to a 4th-place finish in the long jump (20' 3.5"). He earned 6th place in the shot put (32' 5.75") and reached a height of 5' 7.75" in the high jump for 5th place. His 400-meter performance (7th, 52.93) and 110-meter hurdles result (6th, 16.98) kept him in contention. Mallers also showed his strength in the discus throw (5th, 102' 3") and pole vault (4th, 12' 1.5"). He placed 2nd in the javelin with a throw of 151' 1" before finishing 9th in the 1500 meters (4:59.08).

The Mounties' ability to finish in the top six of such a competitive meet—across 10 different events over two days—highlights the strength, determination, and talent of Shuler, Johnson, and Mallers. Their collective success serves as a testament to the excellence of Mt. SAC Athletics. Congratulations to the team for this remarkable achievement!
