(Cupertino, CA) For the 9th time in the last 12 years, the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team has advanced to the California Community College Athletic Association State Championship game, with a 3-1 win over Foothill College in the semifinals at DeAnza College (Nov. 6).
The No. 1 South Seed Mounties(22-0-3) will face No. 1 North Seed Fresno City College Sunday (Dec. 8) in the title game. FCC (16-1-7) defeated defending CCCAA State Champion Cerritos College, 1-0 in the other semifinal game.
The game will be a rematch from the 2017 final when FCC defeated Mt. SAC, 2-1.
Mt. SAC will be aiming for a sixth state title, which would tie Santa Ana College for the most championships.
The Mounties received goals from three different players - Gerardo Cazares, Herminio Padilla and Angel Santoyo. All three were unassisted goals.
The Mounties took a 1-0 lead in the second minute on a goal by Cazares, his 16th of the season.
Padilla put Mt. SAC up, 2-0 early in the second half in the 51st minute with a penalty kick.
Foothill, which has won five state titles, cut the lead in half, 2-1 in the 75th minute on a goal by Padilla.
The Mounties finished off the scoring in the 90th minute on an unassisted goal by Santoyo for the 3-1 final.
Alain Hernandez picked up his 12th win in goal for Mt. SAC.
