Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. San Antonio College Men's Basketball Team has done it again, clinching another victory with a 90-82 triumph over LA Southwest on Wednesday, December 18. With this victory, the team's record improves to 10-1, while LA Southwest falls to 2-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Although the Mounties got on the board first with a layup from Ryan Wheeler, the Cougars quickly countered with a layup of their own from Marques Calcote, a three-point jump shot from Hansen Clarke and a free throw from Calcote to take a 6-2 lead. Mt. SAC wasted no time responding, as Kenneth Brown sank a three-pointer, followed by a layup from Wheeler and another by Brown to reclaim the lead. With strong rebounding from Jaidyn Simpson and critical blocks, Mt. SAC entered halftime ahead 39-33, despite impressive performances from Clarke and Kenneth Tyree, who combined for 23 points in the first half.
The Mounties didn't let up in the second half, controlling the game and maintaining their lead. Marvel Chambers and Wheeler dominated inside with multiple layups, while Brown and Simpson added crucial free throws to bolster the offense. An impressive dunk from Wheeler along with his two blocks and three rebounds this half helped the team finish strong.
Despite an impressive 28-point performance in the second half by the Cougars' Tyree, which included seven free throws and three three-pointers, the rest of the team struggled to contribute more than single-digit points. This imbalance prevented them from closing the gap and mounting a comeback.
