(Monterey Park, CA) The Mt. SAC football team, off to its best start since 2012, maintained its undefeated record with a resounding 48-17 victory over host East Los Angeles College on Saturday night, October 21, in a National Central Conference game.
With this win, the Mounties (ranked No. 3 in both state polls) improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while ELAC's record dropped to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
In 2012, Mt. SAC won 11 consecutive games to begin the season but lost in the state semifinals to Bakersfield.
Mt. SAC, which last claimed a state title in 2014, its fourth overall, was led by sophomore running back Nicholas Floyd (17 carries, 147 yards) with two touchdowns. Sophomore quarterbacks Sean Jastrab (8-11, 119 yards) and Alex Flores (10-12, 110 yards, 1 INT) each threw a touchdown pass.
Sophomore wide receiver Jordan Williams led the Mounties with six receptions for 113 yards and a touchdown.
Floyd (21-yard run) and Taylor-Akins (58-yard TD pass from Flores) gave the Mounties a 14-0 lead in the opening quarter before ELAC kicked a 29-yard field goal, making the score 14-3 midway through the second quarter.
Four consecutive touchdowns by the Mounties put the game away early in the third quarter, resulting in a 42-3 lead.
Highlighting the scoring surge by the Mounties was a 56-yard touchdown pass to Williams from Jastrab and rushing touchdowns by Samuel Green (27 yards), Felix Igiri (4 yards), and Floyd (18 yards).
Sandwiched between two Huskies' touchdowns in the fourth quarter was a 53-yard TD run by sophomore running back Isaiah Dickerson, who rushed for 70 yards on six carries in the game. Freshman running back Devon Miles had seven carries for 80 yards.
With another offensive explosion, the Mounties continue to average over 41 points per game this season.
On the defensive side, Mt. SAC held ELAC to only 77 net rushing yards and recorded three sacks for a loss of 18 yards.
Mt. SAC will host Orange Coast College in an NCC game on alumni night on Saturday, October 28. The Mounties last played OCC in 2017 and won 49-19.
