(Glendora, CA) A 17-game winning streak by host Citrus College came to an end with a convincing, 42-21, win by visiting Mt. SAC on Saturday night (Sept. 23) in a National Central Conference game.

With the win, the No. 3-ranked Mounties remained undefeated with an overall 4-0 record and 1-0 in the conference. The No. 7 Owls, who suffered their first defeat since October of 2021, fall to 3-1, 0-1.

Mt. SAC was led by sophomore quarterback Alex Flores (15 for 23) with 245 yards and four touchdown passes. Freshman wide receiver Dedrek Taylor-Akins (113 yards) caught four passes, three of which were for touchdowns.

Sophomore receiver Antwan Ficklen also caught four passes for 53 yards, while sophomore wide receiver Jordan Williams caught two passes for 36 yards and a touchdown.

Sophomore running back Nicholas Floyd carried the ball 12 times for 113 yards and two TDs.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Mounties sacked Citrus quarterback Koy Riggin (16-23, 136 yards, 2 TDs) six times for a minus 20 yards. Sophomore linebacker Kaylon Bradley and freshman defensive lineman Juruan Hardin each had two sacks in the game.

The Mounties exploded for 28 first-half points on touchdown passes of 31 yards to Williams, for a 7-0 lead, and touchdown passes of 39 and 57 yards to Taylor-Akins to lead, 28-14 at the half. Floyd also scored a 28-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

The Mounties stretched the lead to 42-14 on a 48-yard run by Floyd and a 17-yard touchdown reception by Taylor-Akins in the third quarter.

Citrus added a TD early in the fourth quarter to end the scoring. 

Mt. SAC will try to keep its undefeated record with a home conference game against San Bernardino Valley College on Saturday, September 30.
