Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Baseball Team left no crumbs, crushing LA Harbor 15-0 on Tuesday, March 25, to extend their winning streak to 19 games this season. With a record of 23-3, the Mounties remain undefeated in conference play at 10-0. LA Harbor, on the other hand, sits at the bottom of the South Coast Conference with a 7-17 record and a 1-12 conference mark. Following the win, Mt. SAC surged to No. 2 in the California Community College Sports Information Association State Baseball Top 25 poll, trailing only Santa Rosa College (25-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mt. SAC got things going right away, taking an early 1-0 lead when Diego Ortiz grounded out to shortstop, allowing Bryan Bradshaw to score. The Mounties added another run after Tyler Stull was caught trying to steal second; with the Seahawks' attempt to throw him out, Landon White crossed home plate, giving Mt. SAC a 2-0 advantage at the end of the first inning.
The Mounties extended their lead with an exciting second inning. Diego Villa scored on a double from Cole Nachreiner, followed by a two-run homer from Terrell Jackson Jr. and a run scored by White on a passed ball, pushing the lead to 6-0.
Mt. SAC kept the momentum going with additional runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Ortiz drove in a run in the fourth, while Jackson Jr. added another in the fifth, bringing the lead to 8-0.
In the sixth, the Mounties put together a four-run rally, beginning with a Ty Thomas triple that scored White. Ortiz then singled, bringing in Thomas, before Ortiz scored on a wild pitch and Stull came home on a sacrifice fly, making it 12-0.
The scoring continued in the seventh, as Thomas singled, Ortiz grounded out to drive in a run, and Stull added a sacrifice fly to cap the Mounties' scoring at 15 runs.
And once again, Izeah Muniz was outstanding on the mound, tossing seven shutout innings. He faced 22 batters, throwing 48 strikes out of 62 pitches, allowing just one hit and recording 10 strikeouts. Muniz remains undefeated with a 7-0 record.
Although Compton managed two hits, they were unable to capitalize on any scoring opportunities.
