Torrance, Calif. – After 12 innings and nearly three hours, the Mt. San Antonio College Baseball Team clinched their first confernece series against El Camino with an 11-2 victory on Thursday, February 20. With this win, the Mounties improve to a 10-3 overall record and a 2-0 mark in conference play, while the Warriors drop to 8-5 overall and 0-2 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Slater Nunez got things going for the Warriors in the bottom of the first when he singled to left field, stole second, advanced to third, and ultimately scored on a single by Caden Lewis, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead. The Mounties responded in the top of the third as Ty Thomas doubled down the right-field line, driving in Bryan Bradshaw to even the score at 1-1.

The Warriors reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Aden Laureano singled to short, bringing in Gil Solis for a 2-1 advantage. However, the Mounties found a way to level the game once more in the seventh. Cole Nachreiner tripled to center field and scored on a hit by Luke Bauer, which, combined with a Warriors' catcher error, tied the game at 2-2.

With the game still tied after nine innings, both teams battled into extra frames until Mt. SAC exploded in the top of the 12th, adding nine runs to secure the win. The rally began with the bases loaded after a walk to Stull, a single by Miguel Perez, and another walk to Jackson Giacone. Noah Rodriguez then singled to center, scoring Stull. Bryan Bradshaw followed with a two-RBI single, plating Giacone and Perez. Landon White doubled, bringing home Bradshaw and Rodriguez, pushing the lead to 7-2.

But the Mounties weren't done yet. A walk to Thomas and Diego Ortiz loaded the bases again, followed by another walk that forced in a run as Stull reached first, allowing White to cross home plate. Perez then delivered a two-RBI single to right, scoring Ortiz and Thomas. Giacone capped the inning with an RBI single, driving in Stull to extend the lead to 11-2.

El Camino had one last chance in the bottom of the 12th, but Mt. SAC closer Jeremiah Sibrian made quick work of the Warriors, retiring three in a row to seal the victory.

Pitcher Sam Silversmith earned the win for the Mounties, pitching two shutout innings with one strikeout while facing six batters. El Camino's Adrian Pineda put up a strong fight, throwing 110 pitches over eight innings, recording seven strikeouts while allowing just one earned run.
