Mt. SAC Baseball comes from behind for 5-4 win over San Joaquin Delta

(Stockton, CA) Trailing, 4-3 in the seventh inning, the Mt. SAC Baseball team scored twice and held on for a come-from-behind, 5-4 win over host San Joaquin Delta on Saturday (Feb. 10) in a nonconference game.

Sophomore reliever Ray Northey pitched a near-perfect two innings to pick up his first save of the season.

With the win, the Mounties improved to 5-2 overall.

In the seventh inning with the bases loaded, sophomore first baseman Gibby Morales (2 runs scored) was walked in by catcher Daniel Briones (RBI) to tie the game, 4-4.

The go-ahead run came in on a ground out by pinch hitter Joel Quemada (RBI), scoring third baseman Andrew Walters (2 for 5, R, Dbl., 2 RBIs) to take a 5-4 lead.

In the home half of the seventh with the bases loaded, Mt. SAC shortstop Andrew Ramirez relayed the ball into Briones to cut down the possible tying run by Delta.

Mountie Alejandro Morales struck out the final Delta batter of the inning.

Northey (2 IP, 2 Ks) pitched the final two innings, allowing only one base runner and getting the final out in the bottom of the ninth with the tying run left at third base.

Sophomore pitcher Blake Hagerty picked up his first win of the season for the Mounties.

Highlighting the Mt. SAC three-run fifth inning was a two-run double by Walters, scoring right fielder Bryan Bradshaw and second baseman Joel Gutierrez.

That was followed by a ground-out RBI by center fielder Bradyn France, scoring Gibby Morales to trail 4-3.

Mt. SAC will travel to Santa Barbara on Tuesday (Feb. 13) for a nonconference game.
