Mounties sweep doubleheader against Fullerton, prepare for final series of season

(Walnut, CA) Closing out the four-game series, host Mt. SAC (12-12) swept a doubleheader against Fullerton (6-18) by the scores of 8-0 and 9-4 on Friday, May 21, to take three of the four games.

The Mounties jumped out to a 5-0 lead through three and never looked back, eventually tacking on three more runs in the fifth.

Mt. SAC's offense was sparked by Brent Cota (3-3, 3 RBI, 2 SB), Fabian Moran (2-2, 2B, 3B, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB), and Blake Borgogno (1-3, 2 R, 2 RBI).

Starter Manny Casillas (2-1) picked up the win for the Mounties, throwing five innings, allowing no runs, and striking out nine.

Leading 2-1 in the fourth, Mt. SAC extended its lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning and two more in the fifth to take a commanding lead the Hornets were unable to overcome.

Nick Lugo (2-3, 2B, R, 3 RBI, SB), Casillas (2-4, HR, R, 2 RBI), Sebastian Garcia (2-4, 2B, 2 R, SB), Alex Reynozo (1-3, R, 2 RBI), and Cole Jordan (2-5, R, RBI, SB) helped lead the Mounties' offense. Micahel Rosales and Cristian Enriquez also stole a base each for Mt. SAC.

Noah Rinehart (1-0) got the win for the Mounties, pitching 2.1 innings and striking out three.

Winners of three straight, Mt. SAC will begin its final four-game series of the season at Irvine Valley (11-11-2) on Tuesday, May 25, at 6:30 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no spectators are allowed.
