Walnut, Calif. – In another incredibly close game, the Mt. SAC Men's Basketball Team came out on top Wednesday, January 29, with a final score of 82-79. With this win, the Mounties' record increases to 20-1, while the Beavers drop to 8-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Mounties came out strong, opening with an 8-0 run led by Immanuel Taylor, who knocked down two layups and a three-pointer to set the tone. However, LA Trade-Tech quickly found their rhythm, responding with a pair of free throws from Jerome Smith, a powerful slam dunk by Kunique Yandall-Parker, and a deep three from Andrew Martin to get back into the game. The Mounties were in control of the first half, outplaying the Beavers in both offense and defense, pulling down 25 rebounds, dishing out eight assists and collecting 7 steals as they headed into halftime with a 44-31 lead.
The Beavers came out of the break re-energized and ready to compete, with a well-rounded group of starters and reserves both contributing to their second half surge. Smith and Dai-re fueled the offense with 12 points each and Jabrill Jackson owned the boards with five rebounds as the Beavers made a strong comeback, scoring a total of 48 points in the final 20 minutes. The Mounties were able to hold just strong enough, with contributions from Taylor, Simpson, McCullough and Chambers to pull off 38 points in the second half and end the game with a three-point advantage to secure the win.
